Rage Against 5 Live

Chances are, unless you are more out of touch than a man with no hands, you will be aware of the internet campaign to get Rage Against the Machine to be the Christmas number one. It is quite funny. I like the idea of them getting number one. Tom Morrello is one of my all time favourite guitar players. Well he’s more of a guitar wizard. The idea behind it is to annoy Simon Cowell by preventing the winner of the X-Factor from getting to number one. I’m sure really it won’t make any difference to Mr Cowell, he will still be able to wipe his arse on pound notes if he wants.

The song in question is Killing in the Name, which was Rage Against the Machine’s first single. The song is about fighting back and not being told what to do.

So then, what the hell did the BBC think would happen when they let Rage perform the song on 5 live radio of a morning?

The last minute of the song consists mainly of the repeated lyrics “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me”.

A BBC bod said “we asked the band not to swear”.

I’ll run that line by you one more time Mrs BBC – “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me”.

I’m not an expert, but chances are, they ain’t going to do what you tell them. Durrrrr.
